About Me

Hello, my name is Josie! I aspire for a life followed by adventure, and a career that evokes change in the world. I am currently a student at Kansas State University pursuing a Master's of Architecture. I find myself continuously astonished by the power of architecture, it is the foundation for building communities and representing cultures. I strive to design for the evolution of society, and to be a poet of form and space along the way.

What does the design process look like for me?

The implementation of the design process provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. With any project, I use the design process to understand the human needs involved. Once I've reframed the problem in a human-centric way, I am able to conduct the correct research, brainstorm, sketch, and visualize a solution through hands-on and technical model making.

How has my design philosophy changed over the years?

As a designer I have been more open to experimentation and exploration. I have tried different styles and techniques in order to push myself and continue to grow.

What software am I proficient in for architectural visualization?

I feel confident in the use of Adobe Photoshop to engage my technical skills with my artistic vision. Photoshop allows me to produce a high level of realsim and detail to my renderings in order to communicate a story and illustrate different perspectives for my projects.

Projects

Topeka Cultural Center

The Topeka Cultural Center is designed for the Six Nations of the Kaw River. The purpose of the design is to honor the Six Nations, while simultaneously culturally educating visitors.

Eureka Housing Project

The Eureka Housing Project is a low residential design for the rural nature of the town. The design aims to ensure the survival of the small town of Eureka, Kansas by incorporating housing and other amenities for the younger generation.

Council Grove Library

Council Grove Library celebrates community, using it as an anchor for which the design circulates. Having a centralized gathering space on the site helps the community of Council Grove grow and thrive.
